Roof Lanterns (sometimes known as Timber Roof Lights) are our specialty. There is almost nothing we haven't done in the range of lantern roofs. We have made all sizes and shapes, various ridge configurations, and opening roof lights. We can also manufacture timber lanterns with curved rafters and domes. The accuracy of machining and factory finishing makes our lanterns ideal for self builders and trade customers.

Timber Lantern Roof Specification

Joinery

Your timber lantern roof is machined and finished in our factory by our own highly skilled engineers and joiners utilising 5 axis CNC routers with robotic loading. The roof components are designed and manufactured for an accurate fit. The whole process is under our control and your lantern roof leaves our workshop fully factory finished, wrapped and ready for installation.

Roof Capping and Hardware

Our lantern roofs are capped and finished with a low maintenance aluminium capper which is powdercoated to match the timber colour, or another colour of your choosing. Where skylights are required, there are a range of styles and finishes available. From manual worm-drives and poles, we can also provide modern practical advantages such as electric or automated ventilation. A range of decorative crests and finials are available to give your timber roof a finishing touch.

Like all our timber windows, doors, bi-fold doors and conservatories, a Clifton Joinery lantern is fully engineered to ensure structural integrity. Our joinery manufacturing facilities are truly state-of-the-art and are one of the most advanced of its kind in the United Kingdom. Provided that components are carefully handled, no further painting is required.

Timber

We use carefully selected hardwoods for our lantern roofs, machined and detailed in our own factory in Somerset. Idigbo is very often used as our standard timber. It has excellent durability and lifespan and takes either a clear or painted finish extremely well. A frequent alternative is Red Grandis. Other species are also available upon request.

In addition to the choice of timber species, roof lanterns are available in both engineered timber and solid wood. Engineered timber is becoming more popular as it provides a greater dimensional stability and of course we offer this option as well as the traditional solid wood.

Timber Finish

We offer a range of finishes to suit the location, timber and your preferences. We use three coats of micro-porous paint or two coats of stain which are factory spray applied in our range of standard colours. If a custom colour is required we can create these in house for an additional cost and spray your lantern to the same quality finish.

Glass Options and Specifications

A range of double glazed units can be accommodated. We always use softcoat low e glass units filled with argon gas for improved thermal efficiency and we fit various other options to improve “u” values or to ensure greater security. Laminated or Easy-Clean glazing units are also available as an option.

Installation Option

Although our quality timber lanterns roofs are designed for easy installation, we can also offer an fitting service for the majority of the UK. Please contact us for a detailed quotation for the install of our lantern roofs.

Customisable Lantern Roof Sections

We can alter rafter pitch, centres and depth to your own design or to maximise glass area, finish and glass specifications to suit you. Our experience of manufacturing timber roofs delivers the quality of product for which Clifton Joinery is renowned whilst still giving you complete control and the ability to fully personalise your lantern roof.
