Salesian College, Farnborough

ICT suite

Early in 2007 we were called in to look at an existing ICT suite at Salesian College. This was in a large room laid out with octagonal benching. The laminate desk tops were showing their age but there were other major problems - the poor use of space, poor access around the room because of the size of the desking and the fact that the layout resulted in poor student visibility - they often had their backs to the teaching end of the room.

Coupled with this, the teaching staff were also short of an office!

After consultation with the academics and the bursar, it became clear that a more traditional layout would greatly save space, giving room for a new partition wall to be erected so creating additional office space and a walk-in storage cupboard.

Our furniture design featured a cantilever steel frame system, with a 40mm thick High Pressure Laminated worksurface, finished with an attractive polished beech veneer surround. Bespoke undermounted PC cages were developed to suit the school’s existing equipment, so removing unnecessary clutter from the desktop and keeping the units out of harm’s way.

Installation took place in early August 2007 over a two day period. All necessary service work, decoration and carpets had been completed by the client’s contractors with whom we liaised throughout, providing them with drawings and details of the service positions. The second-fix electrical services finished the project off using our integral cable management system.

Everything was completed on time, technicians were able to reinstall all the PCs and peripherals and the pupils walked into a brand new facility in September.
