Residential Boarding Furniture
Early in 2009 we had warning of a need for upgraded furniture in various locations. This went on to become several full sets of residential furniture in three separate boarding houses, delivered in stages.
We approached this in our normal way by “walking the course” and surveying the rooms. We provided layout proposals where needed to make sure the furniture would fit, including designing special “carrels” and storage for the day studies.
Our detailed quotation was accepted, including mattresses and chairs. We then agreed delivery dates. All schools these days have holiday courses providing accommodation and we had to take the usual due consideration of the Summer letting programmes and still allow just enough time for the school domestic staff to clear and clean the rooms. Timings were tight but of course we managed. Just a normal Summer!
The Joseph Cooper Music School
Originally built in 1897 and added to in the 1960s the music school was ready for complete refurbishment. We were approached in March 2008 to help with the design of Music Technology furniture.
Working with both the Musicians and ICT staff we designed two new suites to incorporate the latest Apple Macs, headphones and Midi-Keyboard systems. The desking featured built-in anti-theft measures and cable management. We also provided height adjustable benching in each room, to comply with DDA requirements (Disability Discrimination Act).
Building work was undertaken by Kitto Construction, completed during Summer Term 2009 and we installed our desking at the very end of the project, liaising with other trades to ensure a smooth transition.
The results are quite outstanding and we were glad to have been involved.
